Some information about the hybrid version of the Lada Granta was published previously, but only now we can tell about it in details.
As we know now the plug-in hybrid system of the experimental Lada Granta consists of a 1,4-liter gasoline turbo-engine, robotized transmission and lithium-ion batteries with the capacity of 5 kWh.
The gasoline motor is a modernized variant of the 1,4-liter VAZ-11194 engine of the Lada Kalina I, its power has been increased to 163 hp thanks to the turbocharger. Besides, the variants with the 1,4 and 1,6-liter naturally aspirated engines are being tested too. A compact 11 kW electric motor was implanted into the robotized transmission. They had to make a 4-speed gear box instead of 5-speed.
The Lada Granta Hybrid can be used in the electronic mode, but it will be able to cover only several dozens of kilometers. In the hybrid mode, the electronic motor either helps to rotate the wheels or operates as a generator recharging the battery.
AvtoVAZ doesn’t intend to start serial production of the Lada Granta Hybrid. As for more expensive vehicles such as the Lada Vesta, this variant can be introduced in several years. Besides, AvtoVAZ plans to find commercial application to the gasoline turbo-engine.
