The news that GAZ car plant was going to produce previous generation C-class Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cars leaked out late in 2011. This spring, following almost 18 months, the factory has commenced with assembly of cars that were named Sprinter Classic.
Sale and service maintenance of the vehicles will be managed by the official Merc dealers in Russia. However there is still no complete information on modifications that will be on sale, the prices have already been revealed. A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Classic van will cost at least 1,177,000 rubles or ~$37,000, while prices for the minivan start at 1,544,000 rubles (~$49,000).
This year GAZ is planning to produce about seven thousand Sprinter Classic units. Later on the total output is seen to grow up to 10 to 15 thousand cars per year.
