April 4 has become a special day for the Datsun brand and the whole Renault-Nissan Alliance: the presentation of the first Datsun model for the Russian market has been held today. Online broadcasting began exactly at a set time. First the audience saw three video reels explaining the motto of the company: Dream, Access, Trust. Then the car itself appeared on the scene.
The presentation was conducted by Renault-Nissan Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn. He underlined importance of the Russian market for the company. The Renault-Nissan Alliance plans to considerably increase its sales in our country within the next few years. The Datsun On-Do sedan will play the key role in this process. One of the unofficial versions proved to be right - the car will have this very name.
They will produce the low-cost novelty at AvtoVAZ. Carlos Ghosn highlighted strict quality control. The car will be equipped with the only possible 1,6-litre naturally aspirated engine (87 hp). Like the Lada Granta, the Datsun on-DO will have an ample boot with the volume of 530 litres. According to Carlos Ghosn, the new model will cost less than 400 thousand rubles. It will be sold at the dealerships of the company. Up to 100 sales outlets will be opened all over the country during three years.
One more Datsun model will be presented in Russia in late 2014. It is not clear now what kind of vehicle it will be. As for the on-DO sedan, they will begin to sell it in summer.
